Under the International Conservation Union (IUCN) 'Red List of Threatened Species' kemp ridley sea turtles are considered critically endangered.



CRITICALLY ENDANGERED (EN) - A taxon is Critically Endangered when it is facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future

Threats

Threats to kemp’s ridley sea turtles vary from one region to another but include:


   
Loss of habitat due to coastal development, including tourism and in dustrialisation
 
Accidental capture by fishing activities (e.g. trawling)
Pollution due to industrial waste, marine debris, tar etc.
Animal predation
Human predation due to meat consumption
