Since its launch in 1997, EuroTurtle has had strong links with conservation and environmental education. As an ongoing joint project between MEDASSET – The Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles, Exeter University and King’s College (Taunton), UK, the primary objective of EuroTurtle is to increase awareness of the plight of sea turtles in the Mediterranean.

Within EuroTurtle Education, there are a number of curriculum-linked activities which have been designed to increase awareness about the conservation issues facing Marine Turtles. The activities are interactive, on-line and cross-curricula and all have been fully tested in an educational environment. The activities are obviously 'turtle orientated', although many of the issues raised apply to most other endangered species.

EuroTurtle Conservation provides a rich resource bank for these educational activities. This section contains detailed notes on the biology and distribution of the seven species of marine turtle as well as an accurate identification key. EuroTurtle is closely tied to the MEDASSET website, which is a source of scientific data and reports on the current state of turtle conservation in the Mediterranean.

Awards and emails from users clearly show that the website has achieved its educational aims. The international appeal of the website has been an unexpected outcome.
