Convention in International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
 
Website of the international agreement – CITES – which aims to control the trade of wild plants and animals in order that trade activities do not threaten their survival. 
 
Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention)
 
Provides information on the Bern Convention – a treaty which was signed in 1979 to conserve fauna and flora throughout Europe and parts of Africa and encourage better co-operation in environmental issues within these areas. 
 
CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA AGAINST POLLUTION (1976) and PROTOCOLS (1980, 1982)

Convention on Migratory Species (Bonn Convention)
 
The official website of the CMS – an intergovernmental pact which seeks to conserve all migratory species. Includes information on the latest ‘News and Events’ and ‘Species Activities’ among others. 
 
The UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention)
 
The Aarhus Convention focusses on the need for public participation in environmental activities as well as the importance of governments in providing environmental information to the public. The site provides a comprehensive insight into the agreement. 
 
Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
 
One of the key agreements made at the 1992 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit, the CBD aims to conserve biological diversity as well as recognising the importance of sustainable consumption and the role of genetic resources. The website also has a section for ‘public participation’ including ‘discussion forums’.
