Pelvic girdle:

The pelvic or hip girdle is firmly attached (joined bone to bone) to the upper plates and lower hind (xiphiplastron) plastron bones.

The pelvic bone is made up of a number of fused bones. The sacral (hip) vertebrae are also fused to the hip bones, creating a tough rigid box.
