Structure of the skeleton

Hindlimb:

The hinds limb are not as elongated or as rigid as the fore limbs. Although the limb is 'paddle' like and used to produce thrust during swimming, it is also used to steer. In females, the hind flipper is used during nesting to excavate a 'flask shaped' hole in the sand in which she will lay her eggs.
